— So what are your thoughts on FRAY ID’s clothing?

―― FRAY I.D のお洋服を着てみて、どうでしたか？

I really liked FRAY ID’s clothing, and it has been really lovely to shoot with everyone today. Strangely I think the clothing had a French vibe to it, and it was reminiscent of some French scenes. I loved the classic tailoring of the jackets, I loved the styling that we did today with the shirt and jacket and skirt, which was closer to my style, and there was a beautiful mohair coat I really liked that - I got to wear it by the swimming pool. Everything was chic, easy to wear, nice things.

FRAY I.D のお洋服は素晴らしいし、今日撮影出来て本当に楽しかった。お洋服からはどこか不思議とフランスの香りやシーンを彷彿とさせられるの。ジャケットのクラシックな仕立ても素晴らしかったし、スタイリングして貰ったジャケットとシャツとスカートの組み合わせも、普段の私のスタイルに合っていたと思う。また、スイミングプールの近くで着用したモヘアコートもすごく好きだった。どれもシックで着やすく、素晴らしいものばかりだったわ！

— What is your general perception of Japanese women’s fashion and style?

―― 日本の女の子のファッションやスタイルに関して、どのような印象を受けますか？

I have a huge admiration for the way Japanese women put their clothes together. I think that they always try something new and interesting and sometimes quirky. I live in New York, and often times women in New York dress in a really amazing way, but sometimes I feel the styles are almost uniform, where as Japan is similar to England in a sense that people indulge in their eccentric vibe. They are not afraid to try something new, they juxtapose interesting materials and fabrics together, and their style is always far out there and unique.

私は日本の女性の着こなしに毎回尊敬させられているの。彼女たちは常に新しいことを試みていると思うし、すごく遊び心に溢れている。そんな部分も大好きよ。私は現NY在在住なの。こちらの女性も皆、とてもファッションに敏感ではあるのだけれど、たまにちょっと似たり寄ったりだと感じる時がある。その点、日本はどこかイギリスに近くて、皆、自身のエキセントリックな部分やリスクを恐れずに楽しんでいると思うし、いろんな生地や素材を織り交ぜるのが得意なのも、とてもユニークで素晴らしいと思うわ。

— We are very impressed of your knowledge and taste in music, what are some of your favorites for autumn and winter of 2012?

―― あなたは音楽にも精通されていますが、今年の秋冬にお勧めの音楽などを聞かせて頂けますか？

If it’s around Christmas time, the Phil Spector Christmas album is always the best thing ever. Apparently it was what Phil Spector thought to be his masterpiece, but when it was released in the 60’s no one really liked it, and now it has become something amazing to listen to, with great artists like the Ronettes featured in the album. I also really like Lesley Gore, but for some reason I am listening to a lot of sad songs at the moment, from artists like Tom Waits. I also like songs like ‘Strange’ from Patsy Cline, ‘Raw Power’ from the Stooges. I feel like I do not have a seasonal music taste, I listen to my favorite music all year around.

一年中好きな音楽を聴いているので、あまり季節に合わせて音楽を聴くタイプではないのだけれど、60年代に作成された時、本人は素晴らしい大作を作ったと感じたらしいのだけれど、当時の批評はあまり良くなかったと言うのも個人的には興味深いの。ザ・ロネッツなど素晴らしいアーティストも参加していて、今聴いてもとても良い音楽だと思う。あとはレスリー・ゴーアもすごく好きよ。けれど、なぜか今は哀しげな音楽にはまっていて、最近はトム・ウエイツの音楽を良く聴いているの。あとはパッツィ・クラインの『Strange』やストゥジーズの『Raw Power』などもお気に入りよ。

— Do you have any favorite movies, books, arts, or culture you recommend that we should check out?

― お気に入りの本や映画も教えて下さい。

My favorite book at the moment is ‘The Unbearable Lightness of Being’. I read it recently and it was really amazing. I felt the writing style was quite similar to Vladimir Nabokov, which is also my favorite. I also like J.D. Salinger, and all the classics, really. For films, I really go for aestheics more so than the content, and I really remember the imageries. I like films like ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’, ‘Paris, Texas’. I recently watched ‘Zabriskie Point’, and it had these amazing outfits and this brilliant and beautiful scene where everything explodes in slow motion. I just watched the ‘Hunger Games’ as well, which was good but really terrifying, and gave me nightmare for a week. My other favorite films are anything Marvel or comic book related, so I really like ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Iron Man’, ‘X Men’. I am basically a boy, but my favorites of all time are all the Bourne series and I think there is a new one coming out, which should be really good. Whenever I say that people think I am saying ‘Porn’ instead of ‘Bourne’, which is really different. But I like them both (laughing)

最近読んで面白いと思ったのは『存在の耐えられない軽さ』。どこか私の好きなウラジーミル・ナボコフに作風が似ているのが面白かった。他にはサリンジャーなどのクラシックな作品が好きよ。映画に関しては、内容より美学やイメージなどの方を意識して見ることが多いの。『ピクニック・アット・ハンギング・ロック』や『パリ、テキサス』も大好きだし、最近観たものだと『砂丘』は内容は面白いとは思わなかったけれど、衣装が素晴らしかったし、最後にいろんな物がスローモーションで爆発していくシーンが美しかった。先日公開されたばかりの『ハンガー・ゲーム』も面白かったけれど、すごく怖くもあったので、夢に出て来ちゃいそう（笑）。後はアメコミの『マーベル』シリーズが大好きだし、『スパイダーマン』、『アイアンマン』、『Xメン』なども大好きよ。私は基本的に男の子っぽくて、アクション映画の『ボーン』シリーズなども大好きなので、新作を楽しみにしているの。この話をするとよく、ボーンをポルノと聞き間違えられるのだけれど、まったく違うわよね（笑）。どっちも好きだけれど（笑）。

— Are there any up-and-comers in fashion or other fields that you admire that we should look aut for?

―― ファッションの世界や他のジャンルなどでも注目されている新人はいらっしゃいますか？

I feel Elle Fanning is really amazing, with fantastic personal style. I think Tavi Gevinson from the Rookies is a brilliant woman in general, and I really appreciate her endeavors on feminism and culture. It is really amazing to watch her learn new things and she sort of takes you into this journey with her, and that is reflected in her style. She used to dress in this quirky way and she is now dressing in a riot girl, Courtney Love kind of way, and I really like watching people’s style evolve. I like people like Clemence Poesy, Diane Kruger, and Emma Stone, they all dress very well. I like people who look like they dress for themselves, rather than someone who look like they have a stylist behind them.

エル・ファニングは素晴らしい女性だと思うし、ファッションセンスも抜群だと思う。ルーキー・マガジンのタヴィ・ゲヴィンソンのカルチャーやフェミニズムに対する探究心も本当に尊敬しているし、観客（読者）を旅に連れて行ってくれるような感覚も好きよ。そういう内面が彼女のファッションにも表れていると思う。タヴィは始めは少し奇抜なファッションだったように思うけれど、最近はライオット・ガール風と言うか、コートニー・ラブを彷彿とさせるようなスタイルになって来ているわよね。人のファッションが少しずつ進化していくのを観るのは本当に面白いわ。またクレマンス・ポエジー、ダイアン・クルーガー、エマ・ストーンも大好きよ。やはりスタイリストに任せっきりではなく、自分のスタイルを持っている女性に好感を抱くわね。

— Do you have any particular item or area you tend to focus on in terms of styling?

―― ご自分のスタイルにこだわりはありますか？

When I am styling, I usually wear something quite ordinary, but I really like playing around with shoes and bags. I usually have quite a strange bag with me, and I am definitely known for wearing odd footwear. So I could be wearing a normal jumper and jeans, but I got these new maroon velvet ankle boots which is quite good, and I like kind of a quirky bag. I like badges and statement rings as well. I just found out about amazing Georgian era jewellery called Lover’s Eyes, and they use to paint their eyes on rings and give them to their loved ones. I think it’s sad that we kind of lost that romanticism around jewellery.

普段のファッションは、洋服は少しおとなしめで、バッグと靴を工夫するのが好きなの。変わったバッグはたくさん持っているし、奇妙な靴もたくさん持っているから、周りから驚かれることもあるのよ。ジーンズやラフな上着などを着ながら、最近買ったマルーン・カラーのヴェルヴェット・アンクルブーツに少し変わったバッグなどを合わせたりして楽しんでいるの。他にもバッジや大き目のステートメント・リングも好きよ。最近発見したんだけれど、18世紀後期から19世紀初期に作られたジョージアン・ジュエリーでLover’s Eyesというものがあるの。その当時、恋人の目が描かれている指輪などを着ける風習があって作られたものなのだけど、その話を聞いてとても感動したわ。最近は時代的にも指輪やアクセサリーに関するロマンティシズムが失われてしまったのかもしれないわよね。

— What kind of coat do you think you might wear this autumn and winter, and is there any specific trend or item that you are excited to wear?

―― 今年の秋冬はどのようなコートを着られる予定ですか？　また、秋冬に注目されているファッションアイテムやトレンドなどはありますか？

I always buy the same kind of coat every autumn and winter, which is like a navy blue pea-coat, but recently I really got into blankets. I would wear blankets as a warm item because New York is so cold during the winter, and there is nothing you can do about it. It us so hard to look nice in the winter, I have no idea how people do it, and I do not personally wear fur, so I have been getting these Tartan blankets to cover up and stay warm.

実は秋冬は毎年同じタイプのコート、ネイビー・カラーのピーコートを買っているのだけれど、最近そこにブランケットを羽織ったりするのに凝っているの。NYの冬は本当に寒いので、寒さのあまりお洒落をするのが本当に難しいのだけれど、頑張っている人を見ると尊敬しちゃう。個人的にファーは着ないので、タータン柄のブランケットなどを羽織って冬を凌いでいるわ。

— Did you have fun with the shoot today? Did you have a favorite style in the shoot?

―― 今日の撮影は楽しんで頂けましたか？　お気に入りのスタイルなどはありましたか？

I had loads of fun today, I always love shooting with Guy, who was the photographer for the shoot today. He always has an amazing energy and I think we have great synergy working together. Guy is a great artist and when you work with someone who totally gets what you like, it’s really amazing. The location, the house that we shot in was really fun as well, with every single nook and cranny seemed to have its own personality and vibe. The other favorite thing I did was to pretend I am on the telephone, which might sound weird but it’s quite a lot of fun. I really liked all of the pieces, the striped jumpers, all the shoes were great, especially the pretty loafers.

今日の撮影は本当に楽しかった。フォトグラファーのガイとまた仕事を出来たのも嬉しかったわ。彼との仕事はいつも良いシナジー効果を生む気がするの。ガイは素晴らしいアーティストだし、互いのことを本当に理解している人と仕事をするのは素晴らしいエネルギーを生み出すと思う。また、ロケーションの家も小さなディテールにも味があってとても素晴らしかったわ。実はジェットラグ（時差ボケ）で、初めは少し集中するのが難しかったのだけれど、電話で話しているポーズをとったりするのも本当に楽しかった。お洋服の方も、ストライプ柄のジャンパーや、靴やローファーなど、どれも素晴らしいものばかりだった。

— Your fans in Japan are so into fashion and style culture, any last message for them?

―― 最後に、ファッションやカルチャーに興味のある日本のあなたのファンにメッセージを。

I really like that you like fashion and style, me too. I really like Tokyo, where it’s always cool!
